A walk of 7 miles with a height gain of 260 feet.

Directions

After 1.5 miles turn left on Marbury Lane to the country Park. There is a Parking fee. Post code CW96AT.
Plenty of historic interest on this walk. It starts at a former country estate and passes a unique monument to the industrial revolution and a medieval church.
The walk
The route falls into 3 distinct segments.
(1) We start across fields though kissing gates to the canal at Anderton
(2) A 2.5 mile stretch beside the Trent and Mersey canal, passing the Anderton Boat Lift.
(3) Then more fields to cross, ascending to the attractive village of Great Budworth with its medieval church. Well worth a visit!
Food and Drink
There is a picnic site at the Anderton boat lift where we will stop for coffee. Lunch stop at Great Budworth to have our sandwiches. There are several seats around the church and there will be time to look around. Also the George and Dragon is a great pub. No time for a meal now though, but, after the walk?
Toilets
At Country Park, Cafe at Anderton Boat Lift, the George and Dragon inn at Great Budworth.
Hazards
Muddy in places, boots and walking poles recommended. We have to cross a major road twice, please take care on lanes some of which have no footpaths, single file, following the leader, everyone to keep to the same side of the road.
