Kott End, Breezy Brine Fields

Description of the walk

The walk begins at the free car park by the end of B5270 at Knott End. A fairly flat walk exploring an unexpected corner of Lancashire’s coastal plain. The walk is approximately 5.5 miles long and takes about 2 ½ hours.

The terrain is flat with ascent 115ft / 35m and follows quiet streets and lanes, farm tracks and sea wall. OS Explorer 296 Morecambe & Fleetwood.There are 3 stiles. Muddy in areas so it is best to wear stout boots and have a stick.

Directions, Map Ref / Starting Point, Car Parking

The journey is 39 miles and approximately 55 minutes. Meet at Parbold shops at 8.45 am or make your own way to arrive at the car park near to the ferry crossing by 10.00am. Walk to start at 10.15 am

Head North on M6. Leave Junction 32 for M55 Blackpool /Fleetwood

Take exit 3 A585 Kirkham/Fleetwood. Take 3rd exit towards Fleetwood/A585 . Head towards Hambleton / Knott End. Continue through Stalmine and Preesall into Knott End on Sea. The two mile road takes you through the village round the esplanade to the car park on the left FY6 0EA (there is also another route taking you to the Broughton and Garstang Rd onto A588 then Lancaster Rd /A6 then on to B 5270

Food & Drink & Facilities

The Knott End Cafe by the car park is open from 9.30 am and provides coffee and breakfast and a takeaway service. There were no really suitable places to stop and eat on the route. We had coffee beforehand and ate our lunch on the sea wall at the end of the walk so there will just be one stop for coffee/ early lunch. The Bourne Arms opposite the car park is a nice place to have a drink afterwards but they don’t serve food. Toilets on the car park. 30p charge.
