Saturday 10 October 2026 | 7.45pm - Alena Baeva, violin with Joseph Havlat, piano
After her romantic and tempestuous playing of Korngold’s Violin Concerto- based on his lush film music at the 2026 Proms, https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/plav/m002z6tl and joyful encore with the conductor also playing violin, Alena resumed her whirlwind concert tour. In fact, in the days before arriving in Parbold she will have given two orchestral performances in Prague, before arriving in Parbold, and on the following day, flies to perform in Luxembourg. Alena Baeva ‘a magnetic presence” (New York Classical Review) is celebrated internationally as one of the most compelling violinists of her generation. Joseph Havlat, a gifted pianist and composer, has appeared in major concert halls across the UK, Europe, America, Japan and Australia. They bring to Parbold an engaging programme about the twentieth century’s re-discovery of folk and ethnic music and how composers drew on it. The second half includes a Mozart’s Sonata written at the height of his powers and, then a solo version of a ballet suite from the 1920s based on old French dance melodies. “There's personality and imagination in abundance from these two artists who clearly enjoy sharing an exploratory journey through such well-known and much-loved music.” Gramophon
