Parbold Ramblers Walk July 15th

Stoodlev Pike and Langfield Edge.

Meet at Parbold shops at 8.30am. The journey takes an hour but we wold like to start walking before 10am.

The Walk.

This is about an 8 mile walk. Typical Harry walk with a big hill and open moorland. The first part of the walk is rather strenuous.

Stoodley Pike Monument was erected to commemorate the end of the Crimean war. You can climb up the monument at the top at your own risk, of course!

The walk will take about 5 hours and there are splendid panoramic views throughout. Part of the walk uses a path fancifully named London Road, which was built by workers from John Fielden's factory to provide work during the cotton Famine. John Fielden was responsible for getting the 10 hours act through Parliament to restrict working hours in Factories to 10 hours a day.

Coffee will be at the top of Stoodley Pike, about an hour and a half into the walk. Lunch will be a little later than usual if you want a particularly pleasant spot to stop. There is a pub situated about 40 mins from the end of the walk which might be a nice place to stop for a drink especially if the weather is as good as the day we did the reecy.

Part of the walk is on the Pennine Way and there are good paths but in wet weather it could be slippy. Good boots and sticks are recommended. You are responsible for your own safety.
