A walk above the Irwell valley

The Walk
The walk is about 7 miles & starts from the small village of Irwell Vale, following the river Ogden initially then climbing to the high point of Tor Hill then crossing open fields & fells on the Rossendale Trail leading us back to a disused railway track bed that takes us back to Irwell vale. The walk is B+ standard with couple of steep sections
The Start.
There is limited car parking in the village. There is a small car park by the station if there is no room here park close by but do not obstruct the villagers. Post Code BLO OQG
Directions.
From Parbold take the M6 north to J29 to pick up M65 Burnley. Leave the M65 at J8 onto the A56. After just over 6 miles leave the A56 signed Todmorden. Pass the Tesco store on your right keeping in the RH lane leading to a roundbout. Take the 3rd exit signed Helmshore, Accrington. Going downhill follow the road as it sweeps to the right (ignore the road on the left as it leads back onto the A56) go over the A56 & in about 30 yrds take the next left signed Ewood Bridge. Follow the road around a right hand bend it then starts to descend quite steeply. As you pass some white terraced houses on your right you can see the road bend to the left. As the road starts to curve take a small side road on your right Bridge Street & IMMEDIATELY left into Irwell Vale road. Follow this lane to the village. You enter the village over a bridge then left again over another bridge leading to an open area with a small roundabout in the middle.
Toilets.
There are no toilets on the walk but there is cover in places if required.
Safety.
Most of the paths & tracks are in good condition but care must be taken at 2 road crossings
Make sure you have warm & waterproof clothing with you. Suitable footwear is essential & a walking stick could be useful in places.
Meet at Parbold shops at 9.00am with a view to start the walk at 10.15am. The journey is about 36 miles & takes about 50 minutes, I have left plenty of time just in case the motorway is busy.
