Parbold and District Ramblers - walk

Parbold and District Ramblers

All walks meet at Parbold shops at 9.00a.m. for Car Share,

Sunday 8 May 2022- Sunderland Point

WALK. The walk will start at 10.15 from the Car Park opposite the Globe Hotel, Overton which has now closed.

This is a fairly easy 5.5 miles flat walk although there are several challenging stiles. From Overton we walk along the road and then across fields to Sunderland. We walk south along the estuary and continue on very stony ground round Sunderland Point and then head north on a bridleway, which can be muddy after heavy rain, to Sambo’s grave and thence to Potts Corner. Again we walk along country roads then back over the fields to the car park at Overton.

Sunderland is cut off from Overton twice daily by the tides so we may have to adjust the walk depending on the tides. Whilst there are toilets in Sunderland there is very little cover to go elsewhere.

This can be a muddy walk and boots and walking poles are strongly recommended.

DIRECTIONS. Leave Parbold at 9 am taking the M6 north to Junction 34. Exit onto the A683 following the ferry signs towards Heysham. Continue on the A683 following the ferry signs and, after the road turns left at a roundabout, you will see the sign to Overton/Middleton. Turn left. After a little over a mile turn left again to Overton. Continue into Overton and you will reach the large car park by the Globe hotel.
