Parbold and District Ramblers

ARNSIDE KNOTT AND COAST

Sunday 7th August 2022

Meet at Parbold Shops at 8.30am to start walk at 10am

DIRECTIONS

Take M6 North to Junction 35.

Turn left onto continuation road M601. At the roundabout turn right onto the A6.

Continue into Milnthorpe (4/5miles). At traffic lights turn left to Arnside and turning right under the railway tunnel.

We found this to be an easier and more direct route.

Continue through to Arnside where free parking bays are available just past the Albion Pub.

THE WALK

This is an attractive walk of approx. 5 miles combining coast, woodland and hill.

The early part of the walk involves crossing rocks and pebbles of various sizes along the coast.

There is a short stretch of scenic cliff path which is narrow and open on the coastal side.

Care must be taken on both these stretches and boots and sticks are advisable.

Apart from the climb to the Knott, most of the walking is on good paths, not too strenuous and given clear weather, the views are outstanding.

PARKING AND MEETING PLACE

Along the promenade or the bays just past the Albion Pub. Assemble near The Albion Pub.

TOILETS

Public toilets in Arnside. (40p payable by card only)

POINTS OF INTEREST

Blackstone Point was once a landing point for ships when the Estuary was used for Commercial shipping.

Arnside Knott is only 159m high, but it stands alone and give spectacular views in every direction.
