THE WALK
At approx. 6 and a half miles and is divided into two distinctive halves.
The first part is through the woodland on the sides of the Roddlesworth Valley and in complete contrast, the second part takes us across open moorland to Darwin Tower.
The tower is a prominent landmark offering a grand viewpoint over much of the surrounding area.
In the past there were several coal mines on the moor and many of the tracks we will see were created by the miners.
POINTS TO NOTE
We will be walking on woodland tracks and stony moorland trails. Sturdy boots and sticks are recommended.
The moorland trail is a steady uphill walk and although not too steep a climb, it may be necessary to take our time in parts.
There is a short stretch on open road with fast moving traffic, so care must be taken.
You are responsible for your own safety.
