Take A5209 from Parbold to Burscough, then turn left onto A59 for Ormskirk.
Follow the A59 through Ormskirk, towards Liverpool. After going over the top of Holborn Hill the road becomes a dual carriageway. At next roundabout turn right s/p Formby B5195. Follow this road following signs for Formby for about 7 miles. Turn right at the dual carriageway (A565) towards Southport, in about a mile turn left onto B5424 Formby Point. Straight across at a mini roundabout, then at the next cross roads turn right onto Gorse Road for Formby Point. Continue to the end of this road, The Freshfield Hotel is on the T junction.
The Walk This is a lovely 5.5 mile walk, the first part across a golf course, into Pine woods until we reach the beach. We then walk along it and across the dunes following the asparagus route. Watch out here to try to get a glimpse of the now rare red squirrels. Then back to the start past the posh houses. Not a difficult walk, the only steep parts are leaving the beach and the soft sands of die dunes.
Parking Parking at the Freshfield Hotel Safety
We have to cross the busy main line, take care.
Toilets None at the start, public one at the Squirrel reserve near the end, and the Pub afterwards.
Food and Drink Coffee break on the Beach with lunch at the Squirrel Reserve .
The Freshfield Pub will be a good place to finish the walk.
