Parbold and District Ramblers

Sunday 4th June 2023 - Dunham Park & Bridgewater Canal

A 7 mile walk along a disused railway track, the tow path of Bridgewater Canal, and the park surrounding the Hall at Dunham Massey. A flat and leisurely walk.

Meet at Parbold Shops at 09:00. Walk will start at about 10:00 from Seamons Road Trans Pennine Trail Car Park (free).

Directions

Take the M6 south to junction 20a, then M56 east in direction of the airport. In 5 miles at junction 7 take the A56 towards Altrincham. At 1.7 miles turn left onto Highgate Rd (there are two left turns at this point, it is the second one). This then becomes Gorsey Lane as it narrows and bends slightly left. At mini roundabout, turn left onto Oldfield Rd which becomes Seamons Rd. Continue for half a mile over a single lane canal bridge. The car park is on the left a few hundred yards past the disused pub. Postcode WA14 5RA. If the car park is full there is street parking on Atlantic St opposite the car park.

Toilets

There are no toilets at the car park. We will stop at the hall for half an hour where there are toilets and a picnic site where we can stop for lunch and visit the National Trust shop and cafe. There will not be time to visit the gardens or hall. You will probably want to have a full days visit there yourself in future for this.

Food & Drink

Bring sandwiches and drink; we will have a coffee stop before we get to the hall. The cafe will have food if you prefer it.

Hazards:

Muddy in places, boots and walking poles recommended. Care to be taken on lanes, single file please, follow the leader, everyone to keep to same side of road.

You are responsible for your own safety!
