The Walk
About 6 miles, an easy grade B walk no stiles, a few gates to shut, varied scenery & Bird hides to use, and a marvellous Victorian Boat lift transferring Barges from the River Weaver to the Trent & Mersey
The walk starts with a walk along the Lane to Marbury Park, passing Neumann’s Flash into Marston & a visit to the Lion Salt Works, leaving the salt works we travel north onto the Trent & Mersey canal, continue along the canal towpath. We will then divert from the canal to walk around Haydn’s Pool, shortly reaching the path alongside the River Weaver/Witton Brook navigation, heading west walking through Birch woodland until we reach the Anderton Boat Lift, with a break here for snack/Lunch dependant on choice. We then continue the walk re-joining the canal heading east we will then divert south from the canal onto a lane to return to the car park
Toilets
Lion Salt Works & at the Anderton Boat Lift
Food & Drink
There will be a coffee stop & a lunch sandwich stop, with an alternative after the walk to go for a full meal and a drink at the Spinner & Bergamot (1.4 miles, 10 minutes by car) Sat Nav CW9 6AY
We will send a food menu out nearer the time for anybody who wishes to have a full meal
This a pleasant walk mixing Cheshire Salt plains, with Flashes (where subsidence caused by rock salt mining), with the industrial heritage of the Boat Lift and the ICI chemical giant
