Sunday 3rd December 2023 Burscough Circular Walk
Meet at Parbold Shops at 9.30 a.m. to begin walk at 10. a.m.
Meet at The Farmer’s Arms car park, New Lane, Burscough
Postcode : L40 8JA
DIRECTIONS
At Junction Lane, Burscough, turn left on to the A59 towards Ormskirk.
After a short distance turn right on to Higgins Lane, just before traffic lights by new housing
estate.
Continue on this lane. Farmer’s Arms is on the right before the canal bridge.
THE WALK
This is a pleasant walk of approx. 5 ½ miles on flat terrain.
The walk takes in canal towpaths, Burscough Village and open countryside around Martin
Mere Wetlands.
We encountered only a few muddy parts but sturdy boots and sticks are recommended as
conditions may deteriorate.
Care must be taken on country lanes near Martin Mere as traffic can be fast moving.
You are responsible for your own safety.
REFRESHMENTS
Toilets are available at the Farmer’s Arms and at Brandreth Barn where we will have a
coffee stop.
Refreshments may be purchased here if required.
There will be a lunch stop at the hides near Martin Mere and we will be eating at The
Farmer’s Arms after the walk.
POINTS TO NOTE
There is a variety of interesting barges moored along the towpath.
Skeins of geese taking flight and landing at Martin Mere.
